Cardamom is native to the evergreen forests of India. It is known in Kannada as elakki (ಏಲಕ್ಕಿ), Telugu yelakulu (యేలకులు), Tamil elakkai (ஏலக்காய்) and Malayalam elakkay (ഏലക്കായ്). Popularly used as flavorings and cooking spices in both food and drink and as a medicine.
